Crowds gathered in central Jalalabad on Wednesday, to celebrate on the eve of Afghanistan’s Independence Day.

The Afghan flag was hoisted atop a lamp post by one man in front of a cheering crowd.

Afghan flags have been replaced across the country by Taliban flags at municipal and public buildings amid the group’s seizure of power.
