Footage aired by Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel on Sunday, showed the moments after Taliban fighters entered the presidential palace as they ceased control of the capital.

The fighters can be seen wondering around the palace with their weapons before gathering around various desks for group photos.

Palace officials then spoke with the Taliban fighters in what was presumed to be an official and peaceful handover of power to the group. Some fighters were seen taking down and folding the Afghani national flag.

The Afghan flag has become a symbol of defiance after the Taliban takeover of the country. The Taliban took over the capital last week after a swift advance amid the withdrawal of the US and NATO troops from the country.
