Crowds of Afghan and Pakistani citizens could be seen making their way through the Spin Boldak-Chaman border on Friday, after it temporarily reopened on Thursday, following its closure due to the Taliban’s seizing of Afghan town Spin Boldak.

The Taliban’s Islamic Emirate flag flew overhead on the Afghan side, symbolising the organisation’s control of the checkpoint town.

The crossing had initially been closed after the Taliban’s seizing of Spin-Boldak on July 14, and has been periodically reopened since, allowing many stranded citizens on each side of the border to return home.

Thursday’s reopening came as the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed reports that Taliban forces had killed over 100 civilians in the area.

Escalations in the country began with the withdrawal of US and NATO troops after being stationed in Afghanistan for 20 years.
