Protesters were gathering once again in European cities, as governments are taking steps to curb the spread of COVID-19, amid rising infection numbers.

According to the WHO, Europe has seen ‘three weeks of progressive increase’ in coronavirus cases, which officials blame in parts on loosened restrictions.

However protesters see the measures as an infringement of their rights.

Government responses to the increasing numbers range from mandatory vaccination for workers to going into lockdown again, as is the case with Latvia.

The Baltic state is the first country in Europe to re-introduce a month-long lockdown, that includes a curfew as well as the closure of schools and non-essential shops.

Meanwhile Russia has ordered a paid week-long holiday in an attempt to curb rising cases.
