Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez addressed his supporters in Buenos Aires on Sunday evening, following an electoral loss in the midterm elections.

The governing coalition Frente de Todos obtained around 33 percent of the vote, compared to 41 percent for the opposition alliance Juntos per el Cambio. Frente de Todos is set to lose control of the senate as a result.

“To those who voted and accompanied us, my gratitude and my commitment as always, to those who did not vote for us, my commitment that I will work for each and every one of them,” said Alberto Fernandez.

The elections were also marked by the growth of the left-wing party Frente de Izquierda y de los Trabajadores - Unidad (FIT-U), which gained 6 percent of the share of votes, and the admission of a far-right party into congress in the form of the Avanza Libertad party.
