Argentina: Voters line up nationwide for primary elections

Millions cast their vote in the Argentine primary elections, as seen in Buenos Aires on Sunday, ahead of the November general election which will determine the make-up of the country’s National Congress.
The elections were held with strict hygiene regulations due to the coronavirus pandemic, with voters wearing masks and social distancing near polling stations.
“The political class has to understand that there has to be that change, that people are waiting for the change. And today more is at stake than the PASO (primary elections), because today I believe that will be defined what type or what model of country the Argentine wants”, said Norma Gomez, a resident of Buenos Aires.
Without being an election itself, the outcome will be a bellwether for the governing Judicialist Party, which has a slight edge over the center-right Republican Proposal in the latest polls.
