Iranian state TV broadcast footage of a naval operation, which reportedly took place off the Gulf of Oman, on October 24.
The Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) can be seen surrounding the Vietnamese-flagged oil tanker ‘Sothys’ using small boats and a catamaran while also landing a helicopter on the tanker’s deck. US Arleigh Burke-class destroyers navigated next to the oil tanker, allegedly monitoring the situation.
Iran says it foiled an attempt by the US to detain a tanker carrying Iranian oil, which the US allegedly intended to transfer to a second tanker.
US officials denied the allegations and stated that Iran seized control of the oil tanker carrying Iranian oil amid escalating tensions between the two countries regarding a new nuclear agreement.
