Over 200 protesters have been arrested during an anti-lockdown protest held in Melbourne, on Saturday, as scuffles broke out between police and participants.

Officers could be seen forming police lines to push back the demonstrators, before spraying foam at those who came too close.

Several attendees also engaged in scuffles with the police, before being arrested, with 10 officers having been injured during the rally.

Victoria police commander Mark Galliott stated that of the 235 arrested, 193 were charged with breaching public health orders.

Earlier that day, the Victoria Department of Health had announced the recording of 535 new local COVID-19 cases, the highest daily figure recorded during the recent outbreak.
