Australian police made dozens of arrests as an anti-lockdown protest in Melbourne turned violent.

Hundreds of people marched through the streets of Melbourne against restrictions imposed by authorities to reduce a huge spike in Covid-19 infections and deaths in the state of Victoria.

Solidarity marches were held nationwide, including in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Victoria Police said they issued over 150 fines for breaches of stay-at-home rules.
