Protesters broke down police barriers as they marched to contest the COVID measures put in place over Christmas to curb the spread of the virus.

Police deployed large units in Vienna to control anti-mandatory-vaccination protests on Saturday. 28 demos were registered, nine of which were banned. Some of the protests were unrelated to COVID, and focused on climate protection.

The nationwide lockdown was removed last Sunday, with measures for the unvaccinated eased for the Christmas period. Unvaccinated will be permitted to leave homes over the Christmas and New Year holidays to attend family celebrations with a maximum of 10 people. 2G rules apply to any gatherings of more than 10 people.
