Thousands of migrants spent the night at a makeshift camp on the Belarus-Polish border close to the Bruzgi control point with the aim of crossing into Poland in the following days.
According to a Belarus border control comment to Ruptly, at least 2,000 people are now gathered at the border, while Poland estimates the number to be at least 3,000.
Earlier on Monday, tensions flared as hundreds of migrants were met by Polish border guards and soldiers near the town of Kuznica. According to Polish authorities, they have stopped hundreds of asylum seekers from entering the country from Belarus. At least 12,000 soldiers, border guards and police have been deployed to the border.
Tensions between the European Union and Belarus have been escalating in recent months, with several EU states including Poland accusing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately directing migrants towards the border in response to sanctions imposed by the EU. Lukashenko has denied the claims.
Poland has strengthened border patrols on the frontier with Belarus and put a barbed wire fence in place to prevent the flow.
