Belarus: Migrants attempt to break through fence at Belarus-Poland border

Migrants aiming to cross the Belarusian-Polish border were filmed near the Bruzgi checkpoint attempting to force their way through on Monday.

Footage shows the migrants trying to break through the fence with tree trunks as Polish security forces standing along the border with shields, spraying tear gas. A helicopter also can be seen circling over the crowd.

Tensions between the European Union and Belarus have been escalating in recent months, with several EU states including Poland accusing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately sending migrants over the border in response to sanctions imposed by the EU.

Germany and Poland strengthened joint border patrols on the frontier with Belarus on October 20 and put a barbed wire fence in place to prevent the illegal flow.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that he would weaken control over migration at the borders with Western countries.
