Belarus: State Border representative comments on migrants rushing Polish border

Official representative of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anton Bychkovsky commented on the migrant situation at the Polish border on Monday. Bychkovsky made the comments during an interview in Minsk.

“According to the foreigners, their ultimate destination is the European Union, where they want to appeal for protection. They do not view the territory of Belarus as their place of residence”, - he said.
Bychkovsky added that Polish security forces used psychological pressure by deploying aviation and equipment and using tear gas.

“In response to the unwarranted use of these methods, part of the migrants took more decisive action and began destroying the Polish barriers,” he went on to say.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the European Commission (EC) commented on the migrant situation at the Polish border with Belarus, blaming Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, during a press briefing in Brussels on Monday.

Tensions between the EU and Belarus have been escalating in recent months. The EU accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of deliberately sending migrants over the border in response to sanctions imposed by the EU.
