Belgium: Volunteers donate food, basic supplies to Verviers residents hit by floods

Volunteers were seen handing out food and water, along with other helpful supplies to the residents of Verviers, on Saturday, in the aftermath of the heavy flooding that hit the region in recent days.

Roads and houses of Verviers could be seen in ruins as locals clean up the debris.

At least 20 people died in Belgium, with another 20 still missing after flash floods hit the east of the country and parts of western Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Luxembourg. In Germany, 133 deaths were reported as of Saturday.

SOT, Gui, Resident: “When I arrived yesterday in the morning, I couldn’t believe it, how is it possible, so quickly the water arrived and we couldn’t take anything to put upstairs. Here we work, but for the people who live here, it’s unbelievable.”

SOT, Gui, Resident: “We took yesterday a family with four children to put in a house because they lost everything. It’s terrible.”
