Belgium: Waregem locals react to arrest of alleged armed suspect after manhunt

After local police arrested an alleged armed suspect prowling in the West Flemish municipality of Waregem, residents commented on the lockdown imposed for the investigation on Thursday.
The Vlas police zone and the municipality of Waregem announced the arrest of the man on social media late in the afternoon, saying that all security measures had been lifted and people could go out on the streets normally again.
Earlier, around 12,000 people had to stay in their homes in Waregem, as special police units were searching for a alleged armed suspect who had been prowling and posing a threat at the campus of the Vives University of Applied Sciences in Kortrijk the previous day.

SOT, Local resident: “Fortunately we do teleworking at this moment and I could stay inside. I said, OK, no problem for me, and then when I heard they had him, I was like whoa, I can go out, I can have my run, I can go where I want. I was fine.”
