Bosnia and Herzegovina: Severe flooding halts production at Messer medical oxygen facility

Nationwide flooding has caused production to halt at Messer industrial and medical gas factory, located in Sarajevo, as seen on Sunday.
Drone images show the facility surrounded by floodwater, with employees using brushes and hoses in an attempt to clear the water.
Gas canisters could be seen stacked on crates above the water, having been pulled out by workers attempting to rescue the products.
The country’s only licensed producer of medical oxygen, Messer has supplied the life-saving gas to much of Bosnia during the COVID-19 pandemic
Messer sales manager Asim Capmara stated that the flooding is not likely to result in supply problems, with production equipment in the midst of being transferred to nearby Zenica.

SOT, Asim Capmara, Messer sales manager (Bosnian): “Two days ago, at five in the morning, the river Bosna overflowed here. In 15 minutes, our production facilities and the administrative building were under water, over one meter deep. We immediately started rescuing the equipment we could pull out.”

SOT, Asim Capmara, Messer sales manager (Bosnian): “I’m pretty sure there won’t be problems with supply (of medical oxygen). Colleagues are already in Zenica. They are filling bottles and preparing them. We are now waiting for approval from the Medicines Agency.”

SOT, Asim Capmara, Messer sales manager (Bosnian): “We are all trying to clean our rooms. We are waiting for the water to withdraw from the bottling plant so that we can continue production.”
