Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the Russian embassy in Sofia to protest what they described as ‘Russian aggression in Ukraine.’ Demonstrators held the rally on Tuesday under the slogan ‘Putin, stop!’ and carried banners expressing solidarity with Ukraine while displaying anti-Putin slogans.
“My name is Denis I’m from Ukraine, my town is Donetsk. Nowadays Donetsk is occupied by Russia. Thanks to Bulgarian for the support. Stop Putin, Stop the war!”
Activists chanting ‘Murderers,’ and ‘Putin out,’ carried pro-Ukraine banners and tried to stop diplomats’ vehicles from leaving the embassy.
The event was organised by members of the political party ‘Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria.’

SOT, Arman Babikian, Politician, (Bulgarian): “The most danger in Putin’s statement I heard yesterday was he called Ukraine “territory”, not a “state”. It means total absence of recognition of state borders, which means that according to Vladimir Putin all the circumstances can be negotiated again.”

SOT, Denis, Protester from Donetsk, (Bulgarian): “My name is Denis I’m from Ukraine, my town is Donetsk. Nowadays Donetsk is occupied by Russia. Thanks to Bulgarian for the support. Stop Putin, Stop the war!”

SOT, Momchil Doichev, Political scientist, (Bulgarian): “This aggression must stop! This is an international criminal (Putin), a bandit with his group of criminals around.”

SOT, Protester, (Bulgarian): “My name is Oksana, I’m from Lugansk and my parents are living on occupied territory. I’m grateful to Bulgarians for the support. And I know that today is our turn, tomorrow can be you.”

SOT, Tsetska Bachkova, Organizer of the protest, (Bulgarian): “This behavior of the protesters is clearly showing the attitude of the Bulgarian citizens, the support for Ukraine and the non-acceptance of that aggression.”
