‘California towns DESTROYED by Dixie wildfire’

Six significant wildfires have torn through California, destroying homes across the state.

The Dixie Fire is the largest and has been burning thousands of acres each hour.

On Wednesday, it raced through Greenville destroying about 75 per cent of the town.

An orange hue descended over the burning remnants of gutted homes and structures.

Cars and trees turned to ash after the flames ripped through the dry terrain.

An area of Greenville larger than the size of Los Angeles has been consumed by the blaze.

A quarter of the US’ firefighting resources are being diverted to tackle the fast-moving flames.

The gusts that exacerbated the wildfire are expected to change direction this weekend.
