Canada: Residents clean up snow after 'historic' snowfall

Over 36cm (14 inches)of snow fell on Toronto and its surrounding region on Monday morning, a historic record only broken by 45.5cm (18 inches) in 1965.

Residents can be seen shoveling huge amounts of snow away from their cars and homes, as snow ploughs cleared the streets to make way for people to walk and drive. One named Manny Silva commented: “We have had you know several winters where we’ve had this amount of snowfall but it’s been at least maybe 10 to 12 years at least maybe since we’ve had this amount of snow in one day.”

Environment Canada declared a major blizzard warning that came close to record snowfall set in 1965, as traffic was disrupted and residents were encouraged to stay at home.
