China has spectacular floods and landslides that have caused pain and suffering to millions of people! At least more than 2.6 million have been affected in southern China since the start of the flood season this year. In Hunan Province, China’s largest rice-producing region, at least 96,000 hectares of crops were destroyed in the first 8 days of the month. Another 76,000 hectares of crops were damaged in neighboring Jiangxi Province. 286,000 people were evacuated from Hunan, with a total of 1.8 million affected. More than 2,700 houses collapsed or were seriously damaged. Direct economic losses are estimated at more than 4 billion yuan equivalent to 600 million dollars. Heavy rain affected nearly the entire province, with some rainfall stations recording historic rainfall levels. In neighboring Jiangxi, another 800,000 people were affected.
