China: Winter Games attract close to 19,000 volunteers

Ever since the global recruitment of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games was launched in December 2019, more than one million people applied to become volunteers at the Games.

Among the 1 million candidates, over 19,000 were selected to lend a helping hand during the Winter Olympic Games and the Winter Paralympic Games.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Beijing Winter Olympic don’t have volunteers coming from overseas.

“It is a pity that there are no foreign volunteers can come, but we have also selected very excellent student volunteers from foreign students in China to participate in the Winter Olympic Games to make up for this deficiency, and their performance is also very excellent,” Liu Wei, a Volunteer Manager said in Beijing on Sunday.

Many of the volunteers are selected from the university students in Beijing and are responsible for helping the journalists with the news service at Main Media Centre.
