China’s first payload fairing parachute-landing

Parachute-based fairing control technology tested on the Long March-2C launch vehicle: A Long March-2C launch vehicle launched the 10th group of Yaogan-30 remote sensing satellites and the Tianqi-15 satellite, on 19 July 2021, at 00:19 UTC (08:19 China Standard Time). For the first time in China, the landing of the payload fairing was controlled using a parachute. According to the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALVT), the test proved that the parachute can prevent the disintegration of the fairing while reentering the atmosphere and paves the way for reducing the estimated landing area of the fairing by more than 80%.
