London’s major railway stations were flooded with people last night as some tried to escape before tough new restrictions came into force at midnight.

Amateur footage shows crowds at Kings Cross and St Pancras stations despite health chiefs pleading with people to avoid travelling.

It came after the prime minister announced ‘Tier 4’ rules for London and the South East, effectively placing 18 million people back into lockdown over the Christmas period.

The government says a new mutant strain of coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate. But critics, including Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer, say Boris Johnson has caused more disruption by failing to act earlier.
