Protesters and police clashed on Thursday night in different parts of Bogota as several protests took place to mark the first anniversary of student Javier Ordonez’s killing by police officers.

Protesters gathered in front of the Immediate Attention Command (CAI) headquarters at Villa Luz and confronted the agents in the streets of the Colombian capital, including the Suba neighbourhood, where they used cobblestones and Molotov cocktails against the Mobile Anti-Disturbances Squadron (ESMAD) armoured vehicles.

Javier Ordonez died in 2020 after two police officers violently arrested him. The event sparked outrage among Colombian citizens and ignited a wave of protests across the country that claimed the lives of 13 other people.
