Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla blamed the US as the main instigator of the massive anti-government protests that have taken place in several cities on the island since Sunday. Rodriguez made the remarks during a press conference in Havana, on Tuesday.
The foreign minister also stated that the US has been using a series of technological tools to make “impudent, obscene, shameless use of lies, slander and manipulation of data in an attempt to mobilise, summon, incite, manipulate people.”
Starting on Sunday, a series of massive anti-government protests have taken place in several Cuban cities. The protesters are demanding the resignation of President Miguel Diaz-Canel and a series of improvements in their living conditions.
According to reports, protests continue in various parts of the country.
The demonstrations come amid an economic and health crisis, intensified by the US-imposed blockade. The island has a record number of cases of COVID-19.
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Foreign Minister (Spanish): “On 11 July there was disorder, there was vandalism, there was violence, and naturally the corresponding investigation is taking place. On 11 July, what in the United States would be called agents of a foreign country acted, who are people who receive money directly, who are paid, who receive instructions, who are transported in diplomatic vehicles, diplomats meet, who constantly visit diplomatic premises and who are constantly instigating to act against the constitutional order and Cuban law.” *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*.
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Spanish): “It [the US] has used high-tech, powerful, and sophisticated tools, of which it has, in this unbalanced world, practically monopoly control, and it has done so to try to take advantage of the harsh social conditions that the pandemic has generated on the planet and, in our case, also making impudent, obscene, shameless use of lies, slander and manipulation of data in an attempt to mobilize, summon, incite, manipulate people in an attempt to mobilize, summon, incite and manipulate the people.”*MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Foreign Minister (Spanish): “No little effort was made to achieve this. The government of the United States could not be criticised for having done little, sometimes in a veiled way, and sometimes in an impudent public way, it has been calling, summoning, instigating, the social explosion, the social explosion and working sometimes in a casual way and also in a covert way to provoke it.”
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Spanish): “And there were disturbances generated not only systematically, not only from an investment that is decades old, not only from the intensification of these acts in the last two years and the last few months but also from the development of a political-communication operation aimed at generating these disorders to generate these disorders at the price that they would occur, as they have occurred, acts of violence, condemnable, rejected by all our people.”
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Spanish): “On 11 July there were riots, there were disorders, on a very limited scale, taking opportunistic advantage of the difficult conditions in which we Cubans are living today, which I have described, and which are incomparable to those experienced on this planet, in most countries. It is truly shameless that some US spokespersons have said that the Cuban people as if they were a people, were demanding vaccination and care for the sick with COVID.”
SOT, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Spanish): “If the president, Mr Joseph Biden, had any interest or any sincere concern and wanted to somehow alleviate the difficulties of the Cuban people created by the policy of previous governments and the policy applied to this minute by his government, he could take executive decisions, he could use a pen and with his mere signature he could significantly, substantially, without waiting, without the need for a legislative vote, modify fundamental aspects of the blockade.”
