At least 41 Palestinians have been injured in clashes with Israeli soldiers in Malaka camp, near Gaza City, as Palestinian health officials reported, during a demonstration marking 52 years since the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, as seen on Saturday.

Injured demonstrators were rushed away on stretchers after reportedly being open-fired on by Israeli forces, with the Israeli army alleging that some 100 protesters had approached the border, throwing hand grenades over to the other side.

Leader in the Islamic Jihad Movement Ahmed al-Mudallal said that the rally was meant as a message for Israel to ‘lift this siege’ on the Gaza Strip, and stated that the gathering, which is held annually, ‘can only end by ending the Israeli occupation of our land’.

Fifteen of those injured by Israeli forces were children, with two currently being in critical condition, according to officials at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
