A massive fire completely engulfed a five-storey building in New York City.

Around 100 firefighters have been deployed to battle the inferno on East 7th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan.

Local media report the building was vacant as it had previously been evacuated due to another fire.

The blaze is reported to have spread to the nearby Middle Collegiate Church.
