Egypt: German FM Baerbock warns of 'highly dangerous' situation in Ukraine during Cairo visit

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock raised concern over tensions in Ukraine during her visit to Cairo on Saturday, calling the situation ‘highly dangerous.’

Speaking at a joint press conference with her Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, Baerbock said, “The situation in Europe is highly dangerous, and we continue working with full force on finding a diplomatic solution,” she said, during a joint press conference with her Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry. “We are ready for dialogue, however, a new aggression against Ukraine would have a drastic price.”

Baerbock went on to issue a travel warning for Ukraine, announcing that Germany will keep their embassy in Kiev open with reduced staff, while relocating other diplomatic missions such as the German Consulate in Dnipro to safer places.

Commenting on German arms exports, Baerbock stated that Germany would stick to its restrictive arms policy while linking the human rights situation in the respective countries to possible exceptions from these rules.

The comments came as Baerbock is on tour through the Middle East, including Israel, Jordan, Palestine, and Egypt.
