Images filmed in front of the Jardin Bella Vista cemetery in Buenos Aires captured the siblings of soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona, Lalo and Claudia, sitting in front of his tomb adorned with fresh flowers on Thursday, in commemoration of the first anniversary of the death of the football legend.

The private cemetery, guarded by police forces and a large media presence, was also attended by the former partner of the Argentine icon and mother of his son, Dieguito, Veronica Ojeda, who could not hold back her tears as she left in her car.

Fans of “Pelusa” gathered around the cemetery to mourn his great loss in the world of soccer.

“It’s a sad day, we still can’t believe what happened. I think that on the day a year ago nobody can still believe it, because we thought he was a superhero, and superheroes do not die and we realize that he is still a superhero, but that sometimes things fail. We try today to remember him with a nice day, not a grey day like today, remembering with nice anecdotes,” commented Jonatan, a fervent follower of Maradona.

The images also show the tributes paid to the late Maradona in Villa Fiorito, the soccer legend’s hometown. Fans placed flags and wreaths in front of the house where Diego Maradona was born, which was recently declared a “national historic site”.

The 1986 world champion died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 and was buried in the private cemetery Jardin de Bella Vista next to his parents.
