France: Clashes in Lyon during TV show hosting of National Rally figure

Clashes occurred between police and protesters in Lyon on Wednesday during a live TV show hosting of National Rally figure Jordan Bardella.

French TV presenter, Jean-Marc Morandini, was broadcasting his show ‘In the street’ outside when protesters gathered, began clashing with police and hurling insults at Bardella.

During the protest, the nearby Gabriel Peri square was evacuated as tensions grew increasingly high between certain antifascist protesters and the police.

The Guillotiere district, a Lyon neighbourhood located near the city centre, has made headlines in recent weeks across France following a surge in violence and drug trafficking.

I went out to try to help her because it was unbearable and one can’t let that happen but her attackers remembered my face and my door and they came back for me the next day. They came to punish me, tried to get me out me out of my place in the middle of the night by cutting my door with a saw.”

SOT, Jacques, District resident (French): “This is a multicultural neighbourhood with people like me who have been living here for 30 years. It’s not a disaster as some claim it is. The particularity here is that all this melting pot is located just in front of the historic centre of Lyon in the heart of the city.”
