France: Protesters take to Paris streets against COVID health pass for 5th weekend

Thousands of protesters, among them members of the Yellow Vest movement, gather for a new round of demonstrations against the COVID-19 health pass required now for daily activities.

Rallies against the health pass, which was rolled out by the government amid a surge in infections, took place across France for the fifth successive weekend.

President Emmanuel Macron champions the measure as according to the Health Ministry, nine in every ten patients with COVID-19 recently admitted to ICUs had not been vaccinated.

As of July 21, in order to visit cultural venues and sports matches, people are required to show proof of vaccination, a negative test, or a recent recovery from COVID-19. A majority of French support the health pass, recent surveys show.
