France: Thousands demonstrate in Paris against health passes, mandatory COVID vaccination

Thousands of people took to the streets of Paris on Saturday to demonstrate against coronavirus lockdowns and mandatory vaccination to certain professionals in France.

The protest comes as French authorities roll out a new COVID-19 health pass amid a surge in infections, and, according to local reports, 76 percent of the French people approve the decision by President Emmanuel Macron to make vaccination compulsory for health care workers and other professions.

As of Wednesday, in order to visit cultural venues and sports matches, people are required to show proof of vaccination, a negative test, or recent recovery from COVID-19.

Nearly 110,000 demonstrators are expected throughout the country, according to the authorities.
