France: Undocumented workers hold rally in Nanterre to demand legal status

Hundreds of undocumented migrants and sympathisers gathered in front of the prefecture of Nanterre, in the outskirts of Paris, on Tuesday, to demand their regularisation.

“They have been on strike for days and days now. First, to obtain from their company in Roissy certificates of concordance to be able to prove, in fact, they actually work,” said Elsa Faucillon, member of the French Communist Party elected at the National Assembly.

“Here, what we are asking is to recognise the fact that they work here. They live here; they bring their life and therefore, they are integrated and regularised. That’s what we’re asking for, and that’s why I’m here,” added Faucillon.

According to the Ministry of Interior of France, in November 2021, there were between 600.000 and 700.000 undocumented migrants on French soil, but the actual number could be significantly higher than that.

She knows that she hires undocumented people and she knows how much more exploitable they are than others to break the house.”

Finally, a support first of concrete solidarity so that they have heating, and food in their picket line. They obtained a first victory that that to obtain these papers coming from the company which proves that they worked during months and months for this company there. And now they continue for their regularization with the prefecture.”

The problem is that everyone, depending on the prefecture where they present their case, well, it will be the arbitrariness of the decision.
