Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino said forward Lionel Messi will travel to France once the player tests negative, speaking during his press conference ahead of the Coupe de France round of 32 clash against Vannes in Paris on Friday.
“Until he tests negative in Argentina he can’t travel (while being positive) to France so we are waiting for the test to certify that he can travel,” said the coach, stressing the lack of knowledge of the behaviour of the virus which continues to mutate.
“In this football environment, contact is inevitable, where living together in a dressing room, where football is played with contact, it is clear that it is much more risky, the risk is there,” he added.
“I am not a doctor, nor a scientist, nor a specialist, I only listen and listen to the judgements that you professionals make. Well, we do everything we can to avoid and so that we can live together in the best way and that we can continue to play football and compete,” he stressed.
Pochettino also expressed his opinion on the future of Kylian Mbappe.
“We hope to have the possibility that Kylian can continue for many years at the club, but this is always two parties making the decisions, let’s hope that this year Kylian continues to have the performance he has had and that the solution is positive for everyone,” he stated.
The coach concluded by wishing health to everyone, especially the Paris St. Germain family and to win and to compete in the best way.
After returning from training, Paris St. Germain face fourth-division Vannes in the last 32 of the Coupe de France on Monday.
SOT, Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain coach (Spanish): “Well, I think we already know, we’ve had the virus for almost two years and I think everyone already knows what we need to avoid in order not to be infected and we can still be infected. It’s a virus that we’ve been living with for two years but it’s also largely unknown how it works. Leo Messi is in contact with our medical services and when he tests negative he will travel here to France. So far we don’t know more than that.”
SOT, Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain coach (Spanish): “No, because until he is negative in Argentina he cannot travel (while being positive) to France so we are waiting for the test to certify that he can travel. The moment he can travel then we will see the conditions to play or not.”
SOT, Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain coach (Spanish): “Well, that’s the risk we are living with worldwide. In this football environment, contact is inevitable, where living together is done in a dressing room, where football is played with contact, it is clear that it is much more risky, the risk is there, of being contagious, but we are taking measures to try to prevent a player who is infected from infecting another player, but I repeat, this virus that practically everyone does not know how it acts, how it works, how it spreads. It has been almost two years, but in those two years we also know very few things, new variants. I am not a doctor, nor a scientist, nor a specialist, I only listen and listen to the judgements that you professionals make. Well, we do everything we can to avoid and so that we can live together in the best possible way and continue to play football and compete, which is the best way we can do it.”
SOT, Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain coach (Spanish): “I think situations in contractual football can only affect you if you are not mature enough. Kylian [Mbappe] is mature enough, and the club also knows the conditions in which we find ourselves, I think it is not a problem, as we all hope to have the possibility that Kylian can continue for many years at the club, but it is always two parties that make the decisions, let’s hope that this year Kylian continues to have the performance he has had and that the solution is positive for everyone.”
SOT, Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain coach (Spanish): “For me, my wish is very clear. The priority is always health, without health we can’t enjoy anything in this life, although it sounds a bit cliche but health is what I wish for everyone, for our family, for your family, for the whole Paris St. Germain family and logically after that, we already know, to win, to win every game, to have the chance to win great things and compete in the best way being authentic, being happy, enjoying what we like, which is our passion, which is football.”
