Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from a military hospital in Gori to prison in Rustavi on Thursday.

The footage shows a cortege of vehicles leaving the Gori hospital and arriving at the Rustavi prison.

On November 20, the ex-president was transferred to the military hospital in the city of Gori from a prison hospital in the Gldani district of Tbilisi for treatment after a month and a half of hunger strike.

He was detained on October 1 upon his return to Georgia. He had previously been placed on the domestic wanted list in connection to abusing his powers in the murder case of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of MP Valery Gelashvili, for which he was sentenced in absentia to three and six years’ imprisonment respectively.

Saakashvili is also accused of illegally crossing the state border and violently dispersing protesters. While in jail, Saakashvili went on hunger strike, describing himself as a political prisoner.
