Members of Georgia’s two opposition parties held a protest at the Didube and 300 Aragveli metro stations in Tbilisi on Friday in support of Mikheil Saakashvili, the country’s ex-president.
The participants marched to the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Refugees and Resettlement of Georgia, chanting “Misha”, carrying flags of the country and flowers. Some leaders of the opposition addressed the protesters.
Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from prison to hospital on Monday due to health concerns after a prolonged hunger strike, which the politician announced he had undertaken after being taken into custody.
The politician was detained on October 1 immediately after his return to Georgia. Earlier, the ex-president was put on the domestic wanted list for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili.
Saakashvili is also accused of embezzlement of public funds and of brutally dispersing protesters.
