Germany: 96 y/o Nazi camp secretary brought to court by police after escape attempt

A police van brought 96-year-old Irmgard F., former secretary of Stutthof Nazi concentration camp, to a court in Itzehoe on Thursday after the woman absconded from her hearing earlier in the day.
According to local reports, on September 8, Irmgard F. sent a letter to the regional court in Itzehoe, explaining she would not attend the hearing.
On Thursday morning, the first day of the trial, she took a taxi in the direction of Hamburg. After several hours police managed to locate the 96-year-old woman and later brought her to Itzehoe.
The prosecution planned to charge the accused with aiding and abetting those in control of the camp in the systematic killing of Jewish prisoners, Polish partisans, and Soviet Russian war prisoners. The indictment read aiding murder in more than 11,000 cases, and additionally listed aiding and abetting attempted murder of prisoners in seven cases during her time of service between 1943 and 1945.
The accused was 18 to 19 years old at the time of the crime and was therefore considered an adolescent.
Stutthof was notorious for the completely inadequate care of the prisoners, deliberately created by the SS. Most of the prisoners died of disease and exhaustion and torture, and inhumane forced labour. In addition, there was a gas chamber and a camouflaged neck-shooting facility for targeted mass killings.
