Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Higher Regional Court in Dresden on Wednesday, as the trial against suspected left-wing extremist Lina E., and three other co-defendants, got underway.
Court press spokesperson Gesine Tews said that the defendant was “accused of having participated in a criminal organisation. Specifically in the time period from autumn 2018 until summer 2020 to have planned and carried out attacks against people within the right-wing scene.”
Outside, a press spokesperson of the anti-fascist demonstrators stated that they believe “a fair process is not taking place” in the court, “and also that it is a political process, because the general prosecutor is leading this case although they are not actually responsible for that.”
Lina E and her co-defendants are accused of having carried out violent attacks on right-wing extremists in Saxony and Thuringia, with Lina alleged to be the head of the militant left-wing extremist group behind the assaults.

SOT, Marta, Antifa East press spokesperson (German): “We are of the opinion that a fair process is not taking place here and also that it is a political process, because the general prosecutor is leading this case although they are not actually responsible for that.”

SOT, Marta, Antifa East press spokesperson (German): “That is always the attempt of the comparison between right and left. There are numerous groups where one could say that the state prosecution has no interest at all in prosecuting neo-Nazi groups, for example the Skin Heads Sachsiche Sweiz or the Kamaradschaft Dresden, here they did not do anything.”

SOT, Gesine Tews, Dresden High Court press spokesperson (German): “The accused is accused of having participated in a criminal organisation. Specifically in the time period from autumn 2018 until summer 2020 to have planned and carried out attacks against people within the right-wing scene.”

SOT, Bodo Vogler, State prosecutor (German): “We are accusing the defendant of being a part of a criminal organisation which was founded in summer 2018 in Leipzig. The goal of this organisation was to carry out attacks against political enemies, that is, against rightwing people and to use physical violence to that end. The organisation is accused of six such attacks, and the attempt of one other attack.”

SOT, Bodo Vogler, State prosecutor (German): “In the physical attacks against their enemies, they carried their political ideological struggle with them in the aggression and escalation, and with that shake against a foundation of our democratic state of rights, namely to free political opinions. They are trying to radicalise society and also escalate confrontation.”

SOT, Bodo Vogler, State prosecutor (German): “Precisely the politically motivated crimes from the left, this is the first case in many years that is being carried out here at the high court.”
