Germany: Berliners react to new COVID restrictions

Residents of Berlin reacted on Friday to the new restrictions imposed by the German government to combat COVID-19, coming into effect Saturday.

The new regulations include evidence of a booster shot on top of a vaccination or a test in order to gain access to bars and restaurants.

Residents were overall positive about the changes. “Yeah my life will not change that much. I have the vaccination. I can do tests any time at my work, so I don’t find it to be such a big thing,” stated one Berlin local.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Germany has been increasing consistently for 12 days.

When one doesn’t have a test with them then one may not go in. So from now it’s just the 2G+.”

SOT, Atzi, Berlin resident (German): “The problem is the rules change very quickly and often. That one doesn’t know what it means. I had it a lot when one meets with other people that we have these questions about what the new rules are and then we must look it up. It’s really hard.”

SOT, Verena, Tourist: “I’m just pleased that I’ve been able to come to Berlin and have a holiday, which has been brilliant. I think it probably will encourage more people to get boostered, for example my son has only had two injections and it might encourage him to have another one.”
