Germany: Foreign Ministry ‘aware’ of deadly Berlin incident involving Russian diplomat - FM spox

Speaking at a press conference held in Berlin on Friday, German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christofer Burger confirmed that German authorities were aware of a recent deadly incident involving a Russian diplomat.

According to local German media reports, a Russian diplomat was found dead in October outside of the Russian embassy in Berlin, having allegedly fallen out of a window.

“The Foreign Ministry is aware of the incident. I ask for your understanding that I cannot provide any details for the reasons of protection of personal data of the deceased person and his relatives,” stated Burger.

Furthermore, the topics including the political tensions between the Gulf states and Lebanon, and the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Germany, were also discussed.

Burger confirmed that the Foreign Ministry is following the political tensions around Lebanon with ‘great concern.’

“We appeal to all sides to be cautious, especially in the current worrying situation in Lebanon, it is not helpful if the tension here intensifies,” said Burger.

“There are great challenges in Lebanon that urgently need to be addressed, including of course the overdue economic reforms, which must now be the focus,” added Burger

Speaking on the current COVID-19 landscape, government spokesperson Steffen Seibert, said that “we should take the warnings from the clinics that are coming right now very seriously,” amid fears that hospitals and clinics could be hitting peak capacity this winter.

Justice Ministry spokesperson Ariane Keitel also discussed the issue of COVID-19 vaccination pass forgery.

“In the last few weeks it happened that there were several court decisions on forgery of vaccination passes, which have also led to uncertainty about the criminal liability of forgery of vaccination passes and the use of fake passes,” said Keitel.

“We have therefore carried out an extensive examination of the current legal situation and still think that there is no criminal liability loophole for the case constellations mentioned,” added Keitel.

Keitel also noted that a proposal to amend the criminal code would be made to add clarity to the current legal situation in regards to vaccination pass forgery.
