Several emergency and roadside assistance helicopters such as the German ADAC were seen arriving at scene of an explosion at a an industrial park in Leverkusen on Tuesday. At least one person died, while multiple were injured by the blast, according to reports.

A big cloud of black smoke billowed from one of the buildings complex from the waster incineration plant, as fire engines and ambulances rushed towards the explosion wailing their sirens.

The blast reportedly shook the entire city area and left a black cloud of smoke hanging in the sky above. Residents have been instructed to stay inside and keep windows and doors closed.

The motorway junction Leverkusen-West and the A1 between the motorway junction Leverkusen and Cologne-Nord have been affected by road closures as the police have sought to restrict access to the site.
