German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Union chancellor candidate appealed to voters at a campaign event in Aachen on Saturday, one day ahead of the German federal elections.

“Our future government, I think we all agree on this, should ensure prosperity, security and peace. That is what we are standing here for, because we in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) are making you an offer in return,” said Merkel.

Laschet thanked Merkel for her work as chancellor, saying it was a ‘stroke of luck’ that she had been in power as Germany faced so many crisis over the last 16 years.
