Members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Free Democratic Party left the start of coalition talks in Berlin in good spirits.
“First impression was very good, everyone is on board, and I feel, this different approach to govern, also to dare, that is what defined the spirit today,” member of Alliance 90/The Greens Katrin Goering-Eckardt said.
Following the first get-together, members of the represented parties shared mostly positive impressions as they seek to form the new German government and install the new chancellor by early December.
“Good mood, everything (was) good. As I came in before I said that it’s less windy inside than outside. Now we’ll concentrate and work,” Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, an FDP member, told reporters.

SOT General Secretary of the Free Democratic Party Volker Wissing leaving the venue *UPSOUND* (German): “It was constructive!”

SOT, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, FDP Member (German): “Good mood, everything (was) good. As I came in before I said that it’s less windy inside than outside. Now we’ll concentrate and work.”

SOT, Anton Hofreiter, Member of Alliance 90/The Greens (German): “I think we presented a good exploratory paper and based on this paper we will draw a good coalition contract, and now I have to excuse myself.”

SOT, Saskia Esken, Co-leader of the Social Democratic Party (German): “Again, we had a very good mood, we had the big group altogether, we committed to negotiations which will actually lead to a success. We are convinced that will build a good government, and now I wish you a good evening.”

SOT, Konstantin von Notz, Member of Alliance 90/The Greens (German): “Yes and you have to see. The last coalition contract was created during parliamentary operations in sessions until 04:00 in the morning. We will do this differently and the meeting today was more of an exchange, yet it was very positive and communicative, and this is also a part of democracy, to try to sort yourself out, and for this purpose it was a good meeting.”

SOT, Katrin Goering-Eckardt, Member of Alliance 90/The Greens (German): “The first impression is that we wanted to get to know each other, that we reflect about the way we will want to negotiate, and the first impression was very good, everyone is onboard, and I feel, this different approach to govern, also to dare, that is what defined the spirit today.”
