The anti-migration Pegida (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) 7th-anniversary rally was met by a large crowd of counter-protesters in Dresden on Sunday.

The counter rally - organised by several left-wing groups - surpassed the Pegida protest with a participatory count of over 2000 people in the afternoon, according to first estimations.

Police could be seen overlooking both rallies as a massive ‘neutral zone’ separated protesters on Dresden’s Old Market Square.

Pegida is a far-right movement that has been known to be critical of the German government’s immigration policies. The AfD (Alternative for Germany) youth group JA, the Identitarian Movement and anti-vaccination groups were among participants of the rally.
