Germany: Political party posters go up in Berlin ahead federal election

German political parties were allowed to put up placards in Berlin on Sunday, seven weeks ahead of the country’s federal elections.

Placards of various major and minor parties were sign on lampposts, trees, and party headquarters in the city.

According to the latest polling by the Insa Institute on behalf of the Bild on Sunday, the Union bloc remains in first place on 26 percent, down from 32.9 last election, with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD and Green Party tied for second at 18 percent.

The next federal election will be held on September 26, with state elections also taking place in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the same day.
