Queues formed outside a mobile vaccination centre inside a makeshift bus in the district of Hedelfingen in Stuttgart on Friday as residents rushed to get vaccinated.

“We want to offer places where now in the cold season one can get vaccinated. Therefore, we will implement this program as long as necessary. We want to reach as many people as possible and we are working hand in hand with the general practitioners so that more people get vaccinated,” said municipal spokesperson Sven Matis.

In recent weeks, Germany has seen a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases nationwide prompting new vaccination centres to open as authorities attempt to deal with the fourth wave of the pandemic.

SOT, Sven Matis, Municipal spokesperson (German): “It is very important for us to be on site. Where there are people who can get vaccinated we want to be present. It is important that vaccination is easily acceptable, that one can get the protection swiftly. We have to reach out to more people in Stuttgart who want to get the vaccine.”

SOT, Sven Matis, Municipal spokesperson (German): “We can see compared to other cities that where many citizens are vaccinated, in Hamburg, in Berlin the incidence rates are also lower. There they have less infections. Hence, it is very important here in Stuttgart, and in other cities that more people urgently get vaccinated and get themselves the protection, so that hospitals are safeguarded and so that those who could possibly have a severe illness are (also) protected. That is why now it is important to help and we see that here in Stuttgart there are more and more people who are thinking about getting vaccinated.”

SOT, Sven Matis, Municipal spokesperson (German): “In Stuttgart we are putting buses on site, on the other side we are working on stationary offers in particular rooms, i.e. in shopping malls. We want to offer places where now in the cold season one can get vaccinated. Therefore, we will implement this program as long as necessary. We want to reach as many people as possible and we are working hand in hand with the general practitioners so that more people get vaccinated.”
