The wildfires ravaging the island of Rhodes on Sunday were filmed from an aeroplane that had taken off from the international airport of Diagoras. There are two fire fronts currently being fought by Greek firefighters. As a result, the military base of Kalamona, as well as the village of Psinthos have been evacuated.

Over 30 firefighters are on the spot, along with 12 firetrucks. Four planes and three helicopters are used to cool down the flames which have taken over parts of the Dodecanese Islands in the south Aegean. The electric supply has partially collapsed, as well as the coverage of the cellular phone grid. The water supply too was interrupted due to the heavy fire.

Locals have been told to evacuate their homes, as the spreading of the fire seemed to be still ongoing. In parts of Greece, temperatures of over 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit) were registered and the National Meteorological Service issued a general warning for the country due to scorching temperatures in the midst of a very dry season.
