Members of the Pakistani community in Athens held a procession on Sunday to celebrate Eid Milad un Nabi, which marks the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
Participants were seen waving flags and chanting as they walked from Kotzia Square to the Parliament building.
“Today is the day that Prophet Mohammed came to earth. That is why we are holding a peaceful demonstration, it is the day of the Prophet,” said procession organiser Mohammed Shabil Daman.
Daman went on to thank the Greek authorities for allowing them to hold the march peacefully.
Eid Milad un Nabi is celebrated on the third month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims across the world.

SOT, Javied Aslam, President of Pakistan Community of Greece Unity: “[Today] we are celebrating, today we are demanding peace and love for humanity. We are celebrating for justice, for love, and humanity. This is our slogan and that’s why we are outside in Kotzia Square.”

SOT, Mohammed Shabil Daman, Procession organiser (Greek): “Today is the day that Prophet Mohammed came to earth. That is why we are holding a peaceful demonstration, it is the day of the Prophet. We love all people and we also respect the Greek people and the Greek state. We want to say thank you that we had the ability to hold a peaceful demonstration. Long live Greece, Long live Pakistan!”
