Live from Athens' suburbs as wildfires continue to spread

Ruptly is live from northern Athens, on Saturday, August 7, as fires sweep through the area amid high temperatures.
The fires caused dozens of villages and settlements to be evacuated and covered the capital Athens in smoke. Hundreds of houses have also been burnt.
The EU Commissioner for the environment, Virginijus Sinkevicius said in a tweet on Thursday that Europe was facing the “worst wildfires we’ve seen in decades” this summer, with multiple countries battling fires in the southeast of the continent amid a heatwave.
