US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a little greeting mishap in Geneva on Friday. Posing in front of journalists, Lavrov offered an elbow greeting, while Blinken reached out his counterpart’s hand for a handshake.
The summit between Blinken and Lavrov was the latest in a series of diplomatic talks between Russia and the US amid escalating tensions on the Ukrainian border.
The meeting took place at Geneva’s President Wilson Hotel and lasted for about an hour and a half, then followed by two separate press conferences by Lavrov and Blinken.
